WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump has expressed his gratitude to Pakistan for arresting a key terrorists involved in killing of 13 US troops in a blast at Kabul airport in Afghanistan.
In his maiden address to Congress, Trump said the person responsible for killing 13 US service members during the withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 had been arrested with the help of Pakistan.
He said the suspect, who is a commander of militant outfit Daesh, was now being transported to the US to face justice.
“We are against extremism and terrorism,” he said.
A spy agency of Pakistan had arrested the Daesh commander, identified as Sharifullah, after taking action on information shared by the CIA.
In his address, the US president also hit out at his predecessor Joe Biden for disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, FBI Director in a message on social media also confirmed that the terrorist involved in killing of the US troops had been apprehended
“I can report that tonight the FBI, DOJ, and CIA have extradited one of the terrorists responsible for the murder of the 13 American soldiers at Abbey Gate during the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal,” he wrote.
In his speech, Trump touched various topics, including implementation of US immigration policies, imposition of tariffs, and calling for strengthened law and order
The US President also revealed that he had received a letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky earlier on Tuesday.
“The letter reads, ‘Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than the Ukrainians.’ He said, ‘My team and I stand ready to work under President Trump’s strong leadership to get a peace that lasts. We do really value how much America has done to help Ukraine maintain its sovereignty and independence. Regarding the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is ready to sign it at any time that is convenient for you.'”
“I appreciate that he sent this letter, just got it a little while ago. Simultaneously, we’ve had serious discussions with Russia and have received strong signals that they are ready for peace. Wouldn’t that be beautiful.”
The US President said his “new trade policy” will be “great for the American farmer. I love the farmer.” However, he did not talked about the retaliation shown by China against his new tariffs
New Chinese tariffs on American agricultural goods are set to affect some $21 billion worth of US exports, international media reported.
Trump again expressed his resolve to create a “gold card” that would offer a path to citizenship to foreign nationals who can pay $5 million.
“We will allow the most successful job-creating people from all over the world to buy a path to U.S. citizenship,” the US president said. “It’s like the green card, but better and more sophisticated.”
