PESHAWAR – At least seven members of banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan were killed by Pakistani security forces in latest operation conducted in Tank District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Reports in local media said seven militants, including high-profile militant was gunned down. The operation was done on intelligence reports about militant activity in the region.
During the operation, a key terrorist leader, Ali Rahman, also known as Maulana Taha Swati, was killed. Rahman, who joined militant organisation around 1.5 decades, wasa key member of Kharijite faction and a close associate of Maulana Fazlullah.
The notorious militant was also allied with another key leader, Qari Amjad. During the raid, one militant took two children hostage inside a house and tried to escape by disguising himself in women’s clothing, using the children as shields.
Security forces rescued children and killed militant, and authorities also found vehicle filled with arms and explosives intended for a major attack.
Meanwhile, area residents appreciated Pakistan Army’s efforts in ensuring the safe rescue of the children and praised the successful operation.
