LAHORE – Noted Pakistani educationist Syed Turab Hussain has been named the new principal of prestigious Aitchison College.
Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem appointed Turab Hussain as the new principal after a meeting of board of governors. Several board members including Ali Ayyaz Sadiq, Mustafa Ramday, Ali Pervaiz Malik, and Khwaja Hassan approved appointment of SM Turab Hussain.
The crucial position was vacant for couple of months after the resignation of former principal Michael Thompson, who stepped down over alleged interference from Governor House. Thompson resigned in protest after former governor Balighur Rehman granted leave of absence and full fee waiver to two children of former bureaucrat and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema.
Despite the government asking Thompson to withdraw his resignation, he did not comply. Prior to his appointment, Turab Hussain was an associate professor at the Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School.
Aitchison’s Principal reportedly opposed request for a fee waiver, but Governor House Secretariat made the changes via special ordinance.
