ISLAMABAD – Acting US Ambassador to Pakistan Natalie Baker held high-level meeting with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi in Islamabad to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of regional security, counterterrorism, and peacebuilding.
During the meeting, Ambassador Baker reaffirmed strategic importance of Pakistan-US relations, saying Washington sees Pakistan as a crucial partner in South Asia and remains committed to deepening ties across multiple domains.
Both sides discussed ongoing challenges and shared goals, including combating terrorism, countering drug trafficking, and addressing broader regional threats. The conversation emphasized the urgency of coordinated action in the face of complex transnational issues.
Two sides also discussed Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, and US President Donald Trump. Officials from both countries regarded the dialogue as a positive step in enhancing long-term strategic cooperation.
Minister Naqvi praised Trump’s diplomatic role in helping to secure a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, describing it as both sincere and impactful. “President Trump’s efforts to de-escalate tensions between Iran and Israel, along with his earlier support in easing Pakistan-India relations, reflect his dedication to peace,” he said. He also expressed hope that similar diplomatic engagement could lead to a ceasefire in Gaza.
Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful conflict resolution, Naqvi stressed that dialogue remains the best path forward for resolving disputes, including the long-standing Kashmir issue.
Ambassador Baker commended Pakistan’s proactive approach to promoting regional stability and acknowledged its valuable contributions to peace initiatives. She reaffirmed Washington’s intention to work closely with Islamabad on shared security objectives.
