LAHORE – Pakistan will elect its new government for the next five years on Thursday when over 128 million people will vote for the National Assembly and provincial assemblies.
Thousands of candidates are running for 336 seats in the National Assembly and 749 seats in Provincial Assemblies.

For people, it’s not unreasonable to hope for polls results in a timely manner.
Results of closely watched Pakistan elections, based on unofficial results, could be made before midnight or in the early hours of Friday.
Section 98 of the Elections Act requires the Election Commission of Pakistan to publish official results within 14 days of the election. Since the voting will take place on February 8, official results should be announced by Thursday, February 22.
In a news conference, Additional Director General (ADG) Nighat Sadique said that presiding officers were obligated to send the election results to the election commission by the early hours of February 9 by 2am.
However, in case of any delay, the returning officer (RO) will inquire about the cause of the delay from the presiding officer (PO) and submit it to the ECP.
The ECP ADG was also confident that the election results would be finalised by 10 a.m., and Pakistan would then have its newly elected government.
