ISLAMABAD – YouTubers and Journalists among one hundred fifty people are facing FIA’s wrath for spreading misinformation about deaths in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
The country’s apex probe agency Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) started an investigation into over 150 individuals, including journalists, vloggers, and TV anchor Harmeet Singh, for allegedly spreading false information.
These social media influencers shared the unjustified deaths of PTI supporters during the November protest in capital but distanced themselves from exaggerated casualty figures circulating online. After meeting Imran Khan in Adiala Jail, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar said the party only reported the deaths for which they have verified information, emphasizing that PTI is a responsible political party.
The Cybercrime Wing detained more than 20 social media activists across the country for making controversial posts about the alleged deaths during the protest.
Shehbaz Sharif’s government established joint task force to start probe against those propelling disinformation campaign aimed at discrediting the state. The interior ministry accused Imran Khan’a party of spreading fake propaganda using misleading AI-generated content.
The joint task force identifies those responsible for spreading false news about the protests and recommends actions to address policy gaps.
